Deserted

And here it turns out that one is facing a destered home. I have been terribly tied up with my dissertation and PhD proposal job, which leaves practically no time to spend on blogging. I have delved into the issue of Islam and Democracy which is probably of the highly debated issues among Muslims. For sure, there is a mainstream version of Islam which is by no means compatible with the general perceptions about democracy. Yet there are few people among Iranian intellectuals fervently defend the idea of imcompatibility, who have assessed the idea of democracy itself at least. Also, there seems to be a dispute over the existence of various interpretations of Islam. I myself find some problems in the project of religious pluralism in Islam. However, this does not by any means contradict the coexistence of democracy within this framework.

Democracy and Islam, huh?!!!
I tell you what it sounds like. When I see Islam and democracy in the same sentence, it feels like hearing "Humanitarian Butcher", "Environmentalist Oilman", or the likes. Other words, an Oximoron!
